Miyosmart

Miyosmart® spectacle lenses represent a major advancement in the management of childhood myopia. Developed through extensive research, these specialty lenses are designed not only to correct blurred distance vision but also to slow the progression of myopia—one of the most common visual problems affecting children today.

The lenses incorporate DIMS technology otherwise known as Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS). This unique optical design consists of a central correction zone surrounded by hundreds of small, evenly distributed lens segments. These segments create constant myopic defocus in the peripheral vision while maintaining clear focus centrally. This optical signal helps regulate the rate of eye growth, reducing the axial elongation that drives worsening myopia. Importantly, this defocus effect is present in all positions of gaze, offering consistent myopia-control benefits throughout daily activities.

Clinical studies have demonstrated impressive outcomes. Long-term research (1) shows that DIMS lenses can slow myopia progression by approximately 50–60% on average when compared to standard single-vision spectacles. Children wearing DIMS lenses also show significantly less axial growth, reducing their risk of developing high myopia—a condition associated with future complications such as glaucoma, retinal detachment, and myopic macular degeneration.

One of the main advantages of DIMS technology is its simplicity and comfort. Because they look and function like traditional glasses, they are generally easy for children to adapt to and require no additional care beyond regular spectacle maintenance. They are a great option for younger children who may not yet be ready for contact lenses or overnight ortho-K treatment.

The fitting process begins with a comprehensive eye examination and a discussion of visual habits and lifestyle. An optometrist trained in myopia control will assess suitability, provide advice on optimal wearing time, and monitor the child’s eye growth over time.

DIMS spectacle lenses are a safe, effective, and child-friendly solution to help slow the progression of myopia and protect long-term eye health.
