Misight
MiSight® 1 day contact lenses are a specialised soft contact lens designed specifically to slow the progression of myopia (short-sightedness) in children. Developed by CooperVision, they are one of the most widely studied and clinically proven myopia-control interventions available today. Unlike standard single-vision lenses, MiSight lenses use a unique dual-focus optical design that not only corrects blurred distance vision but also provides controlled peripheral myopic defocus. This optical cue helps influence eye growth, reducing the rate at which the eyeball elongates—a key driver of worsening myopia.
These daily disposable lenses are worn during the day and discarded at night, offering excellent hygiene and convenience for children and parents. Because they are soft and easy to handle, most children as young as 7 or 8 years old can learn to insert and remove them confidently after proper training from an experienced optometrist.
Clinical trials have demonstrated impressive results. Long-term studies (1) show that MiSight lenses can slow the progression of myopia by an average of 50% compared to regular single-vision corrections. They also reduce the risk of developing high myopia later in life, which in turn lowers the lifetime risk of serious eye conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma and myopic maculopathy.
The fitting process begins with a comprehensive eye examination and detailed measurements of the child’s refractive error and axial length. An optometrist trained in myopia management will assess whether the child is a suitable candidate, provide education on lens care, and monitor the child’s progress regularly. Follow-ups typically include measuring changes in vision prescription, eye growth and overall eye health.
MiSight® 1 day lenses offer a safe, effective and child-friendly option for slowing myopia progression. With early intervention and expert guidance, they can make a significant difference in protecting a child’s long-term vision.
