Soft Disposable Lenses

Soft contact lenses are one of the most popular forms of vision correction, offering exceptional comfort, convenience, and optical clarity. Made from flexible hydrogel or silicone hydrogel materials, these lenses allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea, supporting long-term eye health while providing a natural, barely noticeable feel on the eye.

Daily Disposable Lenses

Daily disposable lenses—often called dailies—are worn for a single day and discarded after use. They are the most hygienic option because they eliminate the need for cleaning solutions and storage cases. Dailies are ideal for people with sensitive eyes, allergies, busy lifestyles, or those who wear contacts only occasionally. Their fresh-lens-every-day design minimises the risk of infection and maximises comfort.

Fortnightly (2-Weekly) and Monthly Lenses

Two-weekly and monthly lenses are reusable and designed to be worn over a longer period. They must be removed, cleaned, and stored each night. These lenses are typically more cost-effective than daily disposables and come in a wide range of prescriptions and materials. Some lens materials that offer higher oxygen transmission have been approved for extended (overnight) wear, though this should only be done under professional guidance as sleeping in lenses can increase the risk of serious eye infection.

Toric Lenses for Astigmatism

Toric lenses are specially designed for individuals with astigmatism, a condition where the cornea has an irregular shape causing distorted or blurred vision. Unlike spherical lenses, toric lenses have different powers in different meridians and must remain rotationally stable on the eye. Modern toric designs use stabilisation technology to ensure consistent, clear vision throughout the day, and are available in daily, fortnightly, and monthly replacement schedules.

Water Gradient Lenses

Water gradient lenses represent some of the most advanced soft lens technology available today. These lenses feature a high-oxygen silicone hydrogel core surrounded by an ultra-soft outer surface with nearly 100% water content. This creates a smooth, cushion-like interface with the eye, providing exceptional comfort and moisture retention—especially beneficial for dry-eye sufferers.

Proper Cleaning: The Role of Hydrogen Peroxide

For reusable lenses, proper cleaning is essential. Hydrogen peroxide cleaning systems offer superior disinfection compared with traditional multipurpose solutions. They effectively break down deposits and kill microbes without the preservatives that can irritate sensitive eyes. The peroxide must be neutralised in a special case before lenses can be worn, resulting in a deep clean that keeps lenses comfortable and eyes healthy.

Soft contact lenses offer a flexible, comfortable, and effective way to correct vision—provided they are chosen carefully and cared for properly. Regular eye examinations ensure the best fit, healthiest wear, and optimal visual performance.
